Lakes Loop 2015

Last Wednesday I had 5 energetic kids in my care (insert evil laugh) for a great chunk of the day. Willow, Ava, Isaac, Jack, and Ben seemed to agree with the hike I had planned. I may or may not have bribed them with a treat when we were finished ;)
We had more snow in the mountains in the month of May then we did all winter (no joke); so I anticipated throwing snow balls at 10,000 ft on the Lakes Loop Trail while the town of Baker baked in hot temperatures. It was nice to get our boots back on a trail!

A hike with little feet means plenty of breaks.

Willow was not going to hike the first half of the trail because she was due for a nice nap. Soon after Isaac snapped this photo, her eyes were closed. As you can see by that photo she needed toothpicks to keep them open..... Ha!

The meadows were super green. There was plenty of snow still on the peaks. The aspen leaves were just barely unfolding at this high elevation......

It's natural to connect with nature......

We reached our first lake, Stella Lake

Willow woke up from her sweet slumber and was thrilled to see the lake. Ok, or maybe it was the snacks that we pulled from our pack.....

Group photo:

Isaac the photographer took these next few photos......

Willow was well rested and took the trail by foot much of the way as we headed toward the next lake. The kids formed a great little support system.

There were snow banks almost a foot deep. Putting your head in the snow was a great way to cool off!

We arrived at our final resting spot: Teresa Lake

It was great to play around the water, at least for Isaac, Jack, and Ben.....

Us girls found a cozy spot on the grass and relaxed watching them......

Our relaxation moment became a pileup....

Silly, silly girls!

We could have spent more time hanging out, but I thought we better head back.....

I glanced at the clock and realized we'd been on the mountain for over 5 hours! Wow! These summer days really get away from you! What a fabulous day. Willow gave me a good workout in the pack too in preparation of my next hike. The hike of the year ~ Wheeler Peak!
:D

Who needs a gym when you have a mountain,  right? ;)
