Borrego Springs

Tail end of San Diego trip: Borrego Springs State Park. It was sooooo hot when we got there we had to spend time indoors. But, we also spent hours in the pool at the hotel. We went to the visitor center, which was really impressive. We only scratched the surface of things to do and see here, so we have plans to return someday.
This brochure says what we felt about the heat.....

Like I said, the visitor center was really nice, inside and out. They had a great interpretive trail and neat exhibits.....

Ava and Isaac did the Jr. Ranger program....

In the evening we looked for critters. We didn't have much luck, except for this little shovel nosed snake....

However, on Bryan and Ava's little adventure ~ they saw a different type of critter. One of the symbols of a hot desert.....

Yep, the roadrunner  ;)

Ava thought it was really cool.......

.............. and just like that, it was gone!

Headed back home, we passed the Salton Sea, which is a shallow, saline lake located directly on the San Andreas Fault. Like Death Valley, it is below sea level.

Somewhere after, we passed rows and rows of date trees! We can honestly say that we've seen what a date tree looks like. They are pretty neat! They look like palm trees....

We tried to find Harry Reid in Searchlight, NV... but we found Alice in Wonderland's chair instead.....

Bryan likes to take the road through Rainbow Canyon, in hopes of finding cool snakes there. 

Guess what he found?!

I'm just going to take the opportunity and say something about this little girl. She is the GREATEST traveler ever! I think she knows that with every ride there is something fun about to happen :)
She is wonderful!

A great ending to a great trip as we headed back to the Great Basin :)
