Strawberry Creek Project

 Today~ the weather was fantastic which has been a refreshing trend all week. When Charlie and Ava stepped off the school bus we went right up to Strawberry Creek. Charlie wanted to visit his dad and we knew where to find him. Plus, I wanted to see how the maintenance project was going at the trailhead. I knew there would be several people we know working up there today ;)

I took a picture of the sign that Audrey made last year, I believe. She did a wonderful job!

They had the road closed part of the way, so we parked the 4runner and walked a short distance toward the trailhead. Ava found a dandelion plant umbrellaed with seeds. When I was little, I used to hunt them down just to blow on them. I thought of Mary Poppins floating away..... lol

Then, we got to the trailhead and I was surprised by the progress. Jeff, John, Wayne, and Adam were all hard at work. Their rock wall is coming along beautifully. It's going to look so neat when it's done.
Charlie was happy to see his dad, and ran right up to him :)

It was already late in the afternoon. It was a short and sweet visit. We'll be back someday; perhaps I'll remember to take photos of the finished project ;)
By then, the rock wall may be covered with snow....... you never know this time of year!

 

 

Through the rabbit brush, we headed back ...................
I looked at Mt. Moriah, which reminded me of the fun we are going to have this weekend!

 

"Take it to the Lake" Half Marathon

Ely had its first half marathon at Cave Lake State Park. It was a fundraiser event for a local child. There was a fantastic turn-out with over 50 runners. I even met one from Arizona and one from Kentucky! The runners from Snake Valley included Gretchen Baker, Chandra Conrad, and Clint Vaughn. They all did fantastic.  There was even a kid race. I was asked to do therapeutic massage for the event. I happily agreed and asked my friend, Maggie, to team up with me. The morning flew by. It was a beautiful, warm day for late September.......

Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive Fall 2012

September 25th was Great Basin National Park's first sign of Old Man Winter. I woke up and noticed some fresh powder on Wheeler Peak. After the kids got out of school, they joined me on a beautiful drive up the Scenic Drive........

I captured Snake Valley shadowed with fast moving clouds. At this point we were almost at 9,000 ft in elevation...........




Home Sweet Home

 

We did a quick stop at Mather Overlook. The scenery just got better and better with popping colors of the Fall season..............

Ava wanted to take a picture of me ~ I'm always a little weary about her little hands operating my expensive camera, but she's careful and she does a great job!

We paused at the Summit Trailhead, around 10,000 ft where the yellow leaves of the aspen were accented by the white snow.............

 

While we were standing there, a government truck drove by, then turned around. It was a familiar park ranger ;)

We got a good laugh out of that question;
