It was pretty high elevation and over 80 degrees! The trail was a 2.8 mile loop.
We were happy to seek shade along the route and take a breather because the switchbacks up were pretty steep....
The Baker kids brought walkie-talkies which was great fun. Emma was practicing her photography skills....
Willow is such a trooper. She hiked up those switchbacks like a little monkey. She hadn't even napped that day. Here it was 4:00 pm. I want to bottle her energy and sell it. Hahaha
Emma was a great help up the steeper sections :)
About halfway through the hike, Ava ran out of steam. She was not thrilled knowing we still had a ways to go. She stomped her way through the Mahogany forest. Today was not her day I guess.
The forest was inviting after going through the shrub communities; it looked like an archway. It felt great to be in some shade for a while. I think that was the main complaint for the kids. Being hot.
Matthew wasn't having a great day either. Maybe it's their rebellious age now..... Haha
They became more cheery when the trail wasn't as steep and sun became blocked.....
We were looking forward to walking through the aspen forest ahead. Willow and Benjamin tore down the trail with John. I was impressed with both of their hiking capabilities. They were having so much fun. They even asked me to take their picture!
It was so warm and beautiful. I felt hugged by the aspen forest. Ahhhhhhhmazing.
| The forest was watching :) |
The trail was taking us longer than planned, but it was enjoyable....
Enjoyable for most of us ...... Haha
The view was vast and beautiful as we made our descent down the mountain....
The last leg of the trail, we paralleled the creek. We listened to the flowing water as the sun began to set.....
Gretchen asked how the kids liked the hike. Here was their response...... lol
Maybe a little dramatic? Kids. We better put some more snacks in their bellies!
Lily is so adorable!
It was nice to have these ladies great company!
