Hendry's Creek
It was a pretty drive to our next adventure. The Nevada desert rarely disappoints. The clouds were changing drastically in front of our eyes. They had such a grand presence and revitalizing, welcoming energy. We continued to bump along with Ava at the wheel. She was really having fun :)
We arrived at Hendry's Creek......

Hampton Creek
Bryan, the kids and I decided to do some desert sauntering at Hampton Creek. We haven't been here since the fire engulfed it and the floods destroyed much of the drainage in the canyon. That was many years ago. You still can't drive too far up, but it's nice to get out and walk around and see what recovered from the fire. We had beautiful, cloudy skies for a week which was great.
Flood evidence all around the scars and skeletons of burnt trees......
The surroundings looking dramatic as we walked around.....
May rain brought out a bouquets of June wildflowers......
"Come to my parlor" said the spider to the fly :)
It was about 5:30 and the clouds made it seem later in the day. Since we had time, we decided to head over to Hendry's Creek too. Ava was thrilled to practice driving on the dirt roads the whole way :)
The "Country roads, take me home" song swirled in my head as we bumped along.

Another Triop Season
Water poured from the sky in the month of May and brought stagnant, temporary pools to the desert floor for a couple of weeks. Where there is water, there is life. We were looking for something special swimming around. We found them right away:
Some call them "Living Fossils." Extra rain on the desert playa encourages a Triop revival! The last one I documented was in 2015, when I did a longer, detailed blog post HERE.
There's only a short window to see these little critters. Looking at them causes you to ask a lot of questions. I like that. Curious things....
Intriguing then, as they are now, and will be next time we see them!
