Rainy Day Hike

April showers came to Snake Valley. My friend Rosaleen came out for a visit so we planned an escape. Kious Basin was our destination. Rain and shine, we were going to make it happen. So we put on our boots and grabbed a rain jacket. The skies started out looking threatening. But, we know that in the Great Basin ~ if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes :)

There was a steady rain for a while.....

We found great shelters to sit and wait out the rain....

We sat in the shelter and watched the rain come down. It felt refreshing.

It wasn't long before a long period of sun came out with a gentle mist of continuous rain....

We were extra cautious on the slick, wet rocks. Happy pack :)

The rain stopped and the sun warmed our bodies as we made our way to the top. There was a large patch of snow that the dogs had a hay day in....

There was bright green moss covering the rocks. The color popped out.....

The dimples in the rocks filled with refreshing desert rain. A thirsty landscape.

I am continuously reminded of the beauty all around Snake Valley. There is wonder all around.

We could see the clouds move across the valley below replaced with others following suit...

We noticed the colorful stripes of the rainbow below. It mixed in with the colorful specks in the rock. An inviting artists palate.

Spring Break: Corona Arch

One of the hikes I picked out was Corona Arch. This was one of the hikes I was interested in when we were here in Moab last visit, but didn't have time. There are other hikes stored in my brain for future adventures :) Anyway. this would be our final adventure this Spring break 2018 trip. So, boots on trail..... here we go! 

Willow was still not feeling 100% so I packed her up most of the way. I let her walk in the fun, easier sections. We took advantage of the shade, as temperatures climbed rapidly.

The most challenging part of the trail required latching on to a cable to climb up the steep section....

It felt like an obstacle course; the kids especially enjoyed that part. The dog; not really hahahaha

We spent the other half of the day cooling off at the Moab pool. So much fun. The day we left, a cold front came through and the high temperature was 41! Yikes! Glad we avoided that this weekend!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Until next time. There will be a next time :)
