Aspen Adventure

We joined Gretchen, Matthew, Emma, and Ernesto on a great Fall day at the Wheeler Peak Summit Trailhead. The leaves are turning. It's especially beautiful this time of year. I would like to drive back up there in a week and see what it looks like then. The colors of this season remind me every year that it's the "show before the snow"......

Aspens take on really strange shapes at 10,000 feet in elevation..... but it's the added stress from the elements.......
One of them reminded me of a totem pole :)

 

 

 

After a while, I couldn't help but notice all the eyes on the trees...... lol
Like the forest was watching us ;)

September Sky

August and early September were our monsoon months ~ bringing relief to the thirsty desert landscape. Aggressive thunder and lightning displays commanded the skies. There are continous, sudden changes in the weather this time of year. When you live in basin and range topography, along with wide open skies, you never know what's going to materialize :)

Our Anniversary

Long, time ago two crazy kids started going out in the summer of 1999. Crazy to think that we've been together for 13 years (minus a brief breakup in between). I was a mature 18 year old and Bryan was 22. So really, mentally we were on the same page; right?
LOL
Four years later we got engaged on September 12, 2003. At that point my family responded saying "Finally!" I mean, "Congratulations!!"  Haha
We got married a year later to the day on September 12, 2004.
So, we just celebrated our 8th wedding Anniversary :)

Here's to many, many more adventures looking in the same direction!

Trotta & Ronstadt

We went to the Border Inn last Saturday to watch a trio of musicians who called themselves Trotta & Ronstadt. They were making their way around on tour and Denys was able to arrange it for them to appear in Snake Valley in support of the water network. The three guys played cello, guitar, harmonica, and mandolin. I guess you could put their style in the country/folk genre. The cello player is a nephew (I think) or somehow related to the singer Linda Ronstadt. They were really entertaining to watch and their music was equally great. Everyone had a great time. Especially when they invited the local Snake Valley musicians, who wanted to, to share the stage. Lois, Bryan, and Cruz jammed along ~ while the kids bounced around the stage :)
Before we knew it, 3-4 hours went by........

Harvesting Season

It's the tail-end of the gardening season. Lucky for us gardeners in Baker, there is no chance of a freeze in the forecast this week. With the cooler, shorter days it's taking extra time for the tomatoes to ripe and everything else to mature. I'm getting my freezer stocked with fresh garden goodness :)

The beginning of September was full throttle for my garden. I went out and picked a table full of veggies the Saturday before last........
The next day, I picked what I missed the day before....... which was a lot! I ended up making another batch of spaghetti sauce.  I love that our grocery list is cut in half in the Summer/Fall season. In addition, do you know how much longer garden-picked veggies last in the fridge? WAY longer than store bought!

This year we grew our own pumpkins, and they are already huge! Their stems and leaves have traveled far and beyond their borders. These pictures were taken last week and the pumpkins are turning orange now. It's going to be fun to tranform them into jack 'o lanterns next month..........................
