The snow is quickly melting in the high country with consistent summer temperatures. This is what Wheeler Peak and Jeff Davis looked like early June. I wanted to see the snow before it was all gone. Ava and I decided to do the Lakes Loop hike ~ just us two :)
She
chose to come along; no bribe necessary to my delight!
I knew this three mile loop wouldn't take long with Ava leading the way with her gazelle legs. I paused occasionally to take pictures, but it felt like a hop, skip, and a jump we were already at the first lake! Maybe we were thoroughly enjoying the scenery and the conversation was a nice distraction from the thin air that was whistling through our lungs... hahaha.
Yellow flowers spread through the meadow; a happy sight. The temperatures in the valley (in Baker) were 95 and up here (10,000 +) was 68. When the wind blew it felt colder. But, it was refreshing because we started the hike right after lunch.
Stella Lake:
We stopped for a while here to have snacks and hydrate, then proceeded to the route through large patches of snow. Of course we had to stop here and play.
The second lake was in obvious sight.....

How inviting it was... with the sparkling, almost turquoise-colored water....
We relaxed and for the first 20 minutes had the lake to ourselves. Not too shabby for a busy summer day on a Wednesday.....

As we walked around the lake, the water seemed to change colors...... so cool!
So happy to have had this adventure with this mighty girl. She was the best part of the day :)
I don't know about my kids, but after one adventure this little voice inside asks "What next?!"
