Winter Carnival: March Madness!

It's March! The birds are singing, and I am too!
March Madness is the theme this year for the annual Winter Carnival for the Baker/Garrison Schools. A large crowd filled Baker Hall ~ eager for food, fun, company, and games, including the anticipated Bingo. Of course there was the big ticket items for the auction: Amazon gift card and large screen TV.

 It was a beautiful March 1st day and we celebrated it well!

 It's great to see community come together and show support.

Winter Carnival: Preparations

The day before the Winter Carnival, we went to Baker Hall to set up our booths. Here is our fishing pond.

Nearby, Gretchen, Matthew, and Emma set up their basketball booth ~ where they added their special touches :)

Mrs. Phillips had the K - 2 graders draw self-portraits of themselves for the Mad-Hatters kid's bingo game :)

Winter Carnival: Fish Creations

The Baker/Garrison School's have another fundraiser event this Friday: The annual Winter Carnival.
I am in charge of setting up a fishing fishing booth. I recruited the artistic help of Ava and Isaac for the decorations of the booth. I drew and cut fishes of all sizes out of cardboard, and then the real fun began with water color paints!

Ava's first fish is covered with various animals. I would know it was hers just be looking at it :) 

She got very creative with it......

She splashed the next fish with loads of color..... I helped her with some finishing details on the tail and added her hand print. She wrote her name. I love how it turned out.

For the smaller fish, she chose solid colors..........

I realized I got busy while Isaac was doing his painting and forgot to get a picture :(
But, his turned out awesome too!

The activity looked so fun, I decided to join in and paint a couple of cardboard pieces myself:

I really like how this last one turned out with each of our hand prints: 

I sprayed the artwork with a matte finish product to help preserve them. I may hang them in the kid's rooms after the carnival :) 

The colors didn't pop out as much as I would have liked them to, but we did the best with water paints. We may explore other types of paints in the near future.

We all had so much fun with our psychedelic fish project!
Tomorrow, we will set up the booth. I may have an update....if I remember  ;)

Cranium

For as long as I have known my husband, he has always surprised me with not only special, but original, gifts year to year. Seriously, I NEVER know what to expect. But every time I open his gift, it brings a smile to my face. He seems to channel my brain when it comes to knowing what I like. Last month I opened up a box and pulled out a true-to-form human female European skull!
It was from Bone Clones, Inc (Osteological Reproductions). With the skull came a descriptive analysis report, by Evan Matshes BSc, MD, which revealed general information of this particular skull: dentition, features of race, sex, age, and general observations.
The mandible is separate from the cranium. The whole thing sits on a stand.
This will be a great conversation starter :)
You know me, I have a facination of the human body :P

Sweet Slumber

Can someone please give my kids the memo to stop growing so fast?!
They look so cute in their PJ's. Sometimes when they fall asleep, I can't help but think of another "growth spurt." *sniff*

sleep: noun 

1. to rest 

2. sometimes accompanied by tender little sounds and faces 

3. an opportunity for parents to watch with wonder and remember that this won't last forever.
