Summer School!

I was doing so great keeping up with my blog until we lost internet for 2 weeks! So, here I am ~ playing catch-up. Bare with me for a little bit on this...... lol
I'm so tired right now, I may just mispell words here and there........ lol

Summer school was held for a whole week in June. I had the opportunity to do an activity (of my choice) with the kids. We identified 10 acupressure points on different areas of the body. These were acupressure points, for example, that relieve headaches, stomach aches, growing pains, etc. Then, with the help of the older kids we were able to trace everyone's body and apply stickers showing each acupressure point.
Here are the kids posing with their finished product:

The next day, Carol, discussed the magic and medicine of plants..........

Awwww, the kids look so grown up in their desks.............

The kids are always eager when it's time for a playground break................

Of course, snack time is always a big hit...........

It was an eventful and fun week for the kids. It's hard to believe that school starts August 15th! That's just around the corner!

Fierce Fire Season

The fire season is in full swing around the county. Some ignited in the local area. When we first noticed this bellowing smoke, it appeared to be coming from Wheeler Peak area or possibly somewhere in the park. We found out a half hour later that it was coming from just outside of Lund, Nevada. It sure made for some interesting scenery that night:

These were taken over at EskDale during our Hanks family reunion........

The sun glowed bright red in the sky..............

The smoke permeated the valley to the North.........

There were many of us eager to bask in and capture this photography friendly light :)

Then yesterday, shortly after noon, there was another fire reported in between Ely and McGill at the shooting range. People in McGill were warned for an evacuation. This one had a direct effect on us too as it took out almost 10 power poles. Our power was out for just about 24 hours. Enough to remind me about being prepared for these kinds of situations. Scary! I believe the cause of the fires are still under investigation.
It's been so hot, dry, and windy for months. With the landscape full of fuel, it's primed for fires!
We still have months in this fire season. Once one starts, it's proven to be very aggressive. On top of that, this week's forecast calls for isolated thunderstorms.............

Here are a few images a couple of my friends emailed me from their residence in Ely:

Be safe out there everyone!

Fly Art

We attended a "Art Fly" ranger program at the Great Basin Visitor Center. There were a number of kids eager to learn about the topic of discussion, The Fly. Other kids would occasionally tune into what ranger Bob was saying, while using the cement pads as a personal jungle gym. Uh hum, including Ava & Isaac. LOL

After the discussion on the patio, the ranger had everyone go inside the building for a hands on art project involving paper, paints, and baby flies; or maggots. Do you know where this is going?

The maggots were dipped in various colors of paint ~ and off they went across pieces of paper.
Go maggots Go!

I have to say, that is a creative piece of art! Check out these finished products:
